What happens when you add a video

ScribeShot reads the video's metadata, checks whether you have already saved that source, creates a local folder named from the video title, and downloads the transcript. It also keeps the source URL in source.md so the original video remains easy to recover from the folder itself.

Why the transcript matters

The transcript is the textual source for summaries, chapter generation, AI notes, mind maps, and most chat retrieval. If YouTube does not expose a usable transcript, ScribeShot cannot reliably create the lesson. Live streams and some unusual or restricted videos may not provide one.

Visual information is handled separately: use screenshot capture for slides, code, formulas, diagrams, and other material that was shown but not spoken.

What ScribeShot saves

The readable output stays in the video folder as normal files. notes.md contains the structured notes, summary.md contains the concise overview, mindmap.md contains the Mermaid mind map, and screenshots are stored beside the note data. ScribeShot's machine-managed metadata lives in a hidden .scribeshot subfolder.

Continue from the video workspace

Once the lesson exists, the useful next steps depend on your goal. For fast navigation, generate timestamped chapters. For a reusable study document, generate AI notes. For visual lessons, capture screenshots. When you need to interrogate the lesson, use video chat.
