Getting started with ScribeShot
ScribeShot is a local-first macOS workspace for learning from YouTube. Choose where your library lives, download a supported local AI model, add a video, then build notes, chapters, screenshots and learning material you can reuse later.

Install and open ScribeShot on macOS 13 or later.

Choose the folder where you want your video-note library to live.

1. Choose where your notes will live
On first run, choose a directory you control. ScribeShot keeps readable notes, transcripts, screenshots and generated learning material inside your chosen library.
If you already keep a knowledge base in Finder, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or an Obsidian vault, pick a location that fits that workflow from the beginning.
2. Choose local AI
Choose a supported model during first-run setup. You can continue through the feature tour while it downloads, but Get Started stays disabled until activation succeeds. If setup fails, retry it after checking the connection and available disk space. After setup, manage models in Settings → AI. Gemma 4 E2B is the lightest option, Gemma 4 E4B is the default, and Qwen3-VL 8B is the higher-quality local vision and reasoning tier for 16 GB+ systems.
The current AI workflow does not require an AI API key or hosted ScribeShot AI account.
3. Add your first YouTube video
Paste a YouTube URL into ScribeShot. The app creates the workspace and obtains the available source information needed for transcript-dependent features.

What to try during the free evaluation
The evaluation includes three successfully processed videos and three screenshots per trial video. Video Chat, mind maps and Jumper require Pro. Test the whole loop rather than only the summary: generate chapters, capture a slide or code frame, inspect the resulting AI notes, and see whether the local files fit the way you already study.
Common questions
Do I need a ScribeShot account?
No. ScribeShot does not require an account or email sign-up for the evaluation workflow.
Do I need an AI API key?
No. The current product uses supported local models for AI inference.
