Run ScribeShot with local AI on your Mac
ScribeShot runs supported AI features locally, so there is no AI API key or hosted ScribeShot AI account to configure. Choose a model for your hardware and workload, download it once, then use it for notes, chapters, screenshot understanding, mind maps, chat and other supported AI features.

Choose a local model
Gemma 4 E2B is the lightest supported option and a good starting point for an 8 GB Mac. Gemma 4 E4B is the default for the best everyday balance of speed and output quality. Qwen3-VL 8B is the higher-quality local vision, OCR and reasoning tier for 16 GB+ systems.
Approximate total downloads are ~2.0 GB for E2B, ~3.6 GB for E4B and ~5.8 GB for Qwen3-VL 8B.
What runs locally
Supported local models power notes, summaries, chapters, screenshot understanding, mind maps, Chat with Video and other AI-backed learning features. Once the selected model is available on your Mac, supported AI inference runs locally.
Hardware guidance
Start with Gemma 4 E2B when memory pressure and speed matter most. Gemma 4 E4B is the default general-purpose choice. Use Qwen3-VL 8B when you have 16 GB or more and want the higher-quality local vision and reasoning tier.
Network and privacy boundaries
ScribeShot still needs network access for source-dependent work such as opening YouTube, fetching an available transcript, downloading model files and checking for updates. Those network operations are separate from supported AI inference, which runs locally on your Mac.

Do I need an AI API key?
No. The current product uses supported local models.
Which local model is the default?
Gemma 4 E4B is the default. Gemma 4 E2B is lighter, while Qwen3-VL 8B is the higher-quality local vision and reasoning tier for 16 GB+ systems.
